Celebrating five years with Whitelion

“As a fresh-faced graduate, I had a passion for working with disadvantaged children and youth. I found that Whitelion’s passion, professionalism, commitment and courage made them the perfect fit for me.

After three years working with Employment Programs I’ve been lucky enough to gain a role in Youth Programs and recently became involved with the YoungLions Advocacy and Ambassadors Program (YAAP). I feel like I genuinely get to experience and take part in young people’s growth as individuals. Seeing the pride they feel when overcoming their challenges and putting the skills they learn to the test, is the most rewarding feeling.

It’s not without its challenges… Running camps is an enormous responsibility. Finding the right venue, facilitators and activities to meet the objectives of the camp can be difficult at times. We have to consider any risks involved to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our participants.

But the rewards definitely outweigh the challenges for me! I believe as youth workers, we walk alongside a young person for a brief moment of their life journey. Our aim is to impart tools, words and actions that they can take with them to guide them on their way.”
