Bail Out 2018 a ‘roaring’ success
Jun 26, 2018
The annual Whitelion Bail Out fundraiser was back for its 13th year in 2018, with the national series comprising two events at Sydney’s Yasmar Detention Centre, one at Hobart’s historical Richmond Gaol and another at the Old Melbourne Gaol.
Each event saw many first-time and repeat offenders giving up their freedom to gain an insight into the youth justice system and, in doing so, demonstrated their commitment to making a difference to the lives of young people.
An impressive total of 342 volunteer ‘inmates’ participated around the country, each raising a minimum of $1,000 in bail.
Participants from UnLtd Media Group were this year’s heroes, taking over one entire event in Sydney where they raised in excess of $155,000. In addition, the same organisation had a group of seven representatives at the Melbourne event, collectively raising over $16,000.
Other heroes topping the fundraising leader board included The Crackers, LAFM, PFD Food Services, Bentleys NSW Convicts, Bay Bandits, Kevin Mullen, Rob Fairs, ASAHI and My Perfect Cosmetics Company.
Whitelion’s annual Bail Out offers a truly unique experience, equal parts theatrical and educational, giving participants an idea of what incarceration can be like. Through a series of speakers and activities, the complexities of the lives of incarcerated youth and the troubling cycle of offending are explained.
We extend an enormous thank you to the hundreds of dedicated participants who were brave enough to take themselves out of their comfort zones and experience Bail Out, as well as the many partners and volunteers who helped make the events possible. These incredible people raised over $460,000 to help support at-risk young people across Australia.
