Whitelion tax appeal to support homeless youth

Whitelion tax appeal to support homeless youth
Jun 26, 2018

As the end of the financial year approaches, there has never been a better time to make a tax deductable donation to Whitelion. This year, the organisation is raising funds to support our nation’s homeless youth.

There are sadly more than 44,000 homeless young people across Australia. For many young people, being homeless is not a choice – most of the time, it is safer for them to be on the streets than to be at home.

But what does youth homelessness really mean?

  • Growing up overnight and learning to take care of yourself without any help
  • Not knowing where you’ll sleep tonight, and when you will have your next meal
  • Having no money in your pocket to buy basic hygiene necessities
  • Losing hope ... not having anything to look forward to, or anyone to look up to

While these are only some of the many effects that homelessness has on every young person living without a permanent roof over their heads, the story doesn’t end there.

Youth homelessness impacts everyone in our community, both socially and economically. For instance:

  • A large portion of our tax payments ($747 million annually ) is directed to homelessness services year after year.
  • We are living in a society where a large number of young people feel isolated and ignored.
  • A growing number of our future adults will not be able to contribute to our economy and will not be active members of our community.

We strongly believe by working together we can solve this issue and change the lives of homeless young people across Australia.

At Whitelion, we have a range of services to help homeless youth. We can give them what they need to get back on their feet and become an active member of our community. We can help them find a safe place to live, continue their education, get a job and create a better future for themselves and our community as a whole.

By donating to Whitelion between now and 30 June, you will not only receive a tax deduction, but you will be helping to provide vital funds to support young homeless Australians and change their lives for the better.

We simply can’t run our services without your support. A lot of the programs we provide are not government funded, and therefore depend upon donations from the community.

We are proud to deliver 82.5% of each dollar donated to the tax appeal, and to the organisation generally, go directly into delivering services to young people who are at-risk.
