DARE2B Youth Conference a Huge Success x 2

Whitelion’s DARE2B Youth Conference was held in Moorabbin and Geelong in July and August with over 650 young people attending. The event focuses on the importance of how a healthy body and mind contribute to success.
Young people attended workshops that showcased a range of motivational speakers and great activities that help them realise their full potential.
It is a great learning event that incorporates fun and engaging activities while celebrating youth culture and the range of support services available to young people.
Speaker Glenn Manton kicked off the event in both locations with his personal, inspirational story, that had listeners engaged from beginning to end. Young people then broke out into a range of workshops. The careers expo workshop was facilitated by the amazing Rachael Henderson (Rakka) talking with guest speakers; including our own Mahsa Hajjari discussing her career path.
Other workshops included Mindfulness, Yoga, Wheelly Good Coffee - Barista Training, Cooking and a Whitelion/Stride Resilience Workshop called “Helping Ya Mate”.
Speakers volunteered their time to share their stories from the entertainment industry including Penny Lane and Jordy Lucas. Emergency Services and Sporting Professionals outlined their own life journeys and how they overcame challenges and barriers to success.
Emotions were sometimes high, with young people so inspired they were bought to tears. At other times, feelings of overwhelm happened when the young people faced their own challenges that were brought up by the day. Thanks to our amazing Whitelion staff we were able to deal with any issues in a professional and caring manner.
The highlight of the day was the Indigenous Hip Hop Crew who somehow manage to get every person at the event dancing, smiling and feeling good, leaving the event on a high-note.
Whitelion: Stride Programs coordinated the event and were supported by organisations including Major Sponsor - APM Employment Services and Local Business Supporter Geelong – Boral.
