Alex's Story
Mar 15, 2019
The young people that Whitelion support come from many different backgrounds and experiences, and many of these young people also exhibit offending behaviours. This is true for 14 year old Alex* who, when he started working with Whitelion, was engaging in gang-related behaviours and was at risk of entering the youth justice system.
Alex was referred to Whitelion by a local education facility, as he was disengaged and had not attended in many months. Alex engaged in the Wyndham Outreach Program where he was provided with intensive case management support, which included advocacy and support for court appearances, as well as facilitated referrals into complimentary services. One of the first things that Alex worked on with Whitelion was engagement strategies to support Alex’s return to school.
With the support of Whitelion’s Wyndham Outreach Program, Alex was able to make some hugely positive steps towards transforming his life. Alex is no longer offending, and is successfully enrolled into an education facility where he is completing a course.
Whitelion has continued to support Alex to ensure his success in the education system. Alex’s carer has said about Whitelion’s support that ‘In the past, everyone has given up on Alex, so he has really appreciated the consistency of his Whitelion worker’.
