Bail Out Wraps Up for 2019
Jul 25, 2019

The 30th of June saw Whitelion wrap up our 14th annual Bail Out campaign, with the donations closing out at a massive $460,416. It was one of our biggest Bail Out seasons ever with six events across four states. Close to 400 ‘inmates’ attended the justice system-simulation events in Mt Gambier, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart.

Bail Out aims to raise awareness of the circumstances that lead young people to enter the justice system. This year the theme was “turning points” and allowed us to explore the moments where a young person is disconnected from their community due to family breakdown, abuse, neglect or lack of positive social connections. We were thrilled to welcome BBC Journalist and host of Netflix’s Inside The World’s Toughest Prisons, Raphael Rowe to Australia to attend one of our Sydney and our Melbourne events. Sharing his own story of being wrongfully imprisoned at age 18 for 12 years, Raphael brought an interesting insight into the justice system and its workings.

We are so grateful for the dedicated participants brave enough to take themselves out of their comfort zones and take part in Bail Out – we couldn’t do it without you!
